Manchester Quays Development (MGY) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from Manchester and East Cheshire Permo-Triassic Sandstone Aquifers in Manchester, Greater Manchester from an area indicated by National Grid References SJ 83094 98099, SJ 83153 98082, SJ 83102 97990 and SJ 83025 98012.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 208 cubic metres an hour
  • 5,000 cubic metres a day
  • 1,825,000 cubic metres a year
  • The licence will expire on 01 June 2020

The application is for the purpose of dewatering. The process is non-consumptive and all water will be discharged into the River Irwell at National Grid Reference SJ 82996 98075.
