In June 2025, HMRC’s Accounting Officer undertook an assessment of the Making Tax Digital Programme following an updated programme business case.
This Accounting Officer Assessment supersedes the assessment from April 2024.
The Making Tax Digital (MTD) Programme aims to support UK businesses to transact digitally and forms a crucial building block in HMRC’s transformation plans and the government’s ten-year strategy to modernise the UK tax system, making it more resilient and effective, boosting business productivity, and supporting taxpayers.
The Accounting Officer’s Assessment concluded that the programme is value for money and deliverable.
