M J Church (Plant) Limited: application made to abstract water

M J Church (Plant) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency to vary a transfer licence and for a new abstraction licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is to vary the licence to abstract water from an area between National Grid References (NGRs) ST 70831 73110, ST 71013 73329, ST 71133 73187 and ST 71062 73052 known as Main Quarries Void and an area between NGRs ST 70873 73550, ST 70859 73810, ST 71061 73882 and ST 70979 73601 known as Truebodies Void to transfer it to The River Boyd at National Grid Reference ST 7107 7281 and ST 7082 7316 without intervening use.

The variation applied for is to increase the volume of water abstracted to:

  • 833 cubic metres an hour

  • 20,000 cubic metres a day

  • 7,300,000 cubic metres a year

The variation is also to increase the abstraction period to all year round and to transfer the licence to Wick Quarry Limited.

The second application is for a new licence is to abstract water from the same area as the licence above.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 5 cubic metres an hour

  • 50 cubic metres a day

  • 18,031 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for dust suppression.
