An application has been made to the Environment Agency by Lyn Valley Trust Partnership, c/o Lynmouth & Lynton Lift Company. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the West Lyn River, Barbrook, at National Grid Reference (NGR) SS 71538 47694 via a coanda screen, with discharge of water, via a turbine located at NGR SS 71693 48380, to the West Lyn River.

The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates and periods:

  • 3924 cubic metres an hour
  • 94,176 cubic metres a day
  • 20,718,720 cubic metres a year
  • at a rate not exceeding 1090 litres per second

The water will be used for power generation.

Application is also being made for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the West Lyn River in Barbrook at NGR SS 7153 4769. The object of impounding water by means of the works is to facilitate abstraction of water for power generation.
