Ludlow Hydro Co-operative Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Teme at Ludford Mill, Ludford, Ludlow, Shropshire at National Grid Reference SO 51383 74192.

Water will be obstructed or impeded for hydro-electric power generation.

Further details are:

  • modification of an existing washout sluice channel and the downstream end of the right weir arm of the parabolic shaped weir known as Horseshoe Weir at Ludford Mill, to install 1no. archimedean screw hydropower turbine, sluice gate, debris screen, washout sluice channel & eel/lamprey pass
  • a hands off flow (HOF) of will be maintained across the weir and pre-existing fish pass located at the weir apex prior to the turbine abstracting any water
