Low Wood Hotel (1958) Limited and Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel Limited have applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The applications from Low Wood Hotel (1958) Limited and Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel Limited were originally advertised separately on the 5 June 2014 and 18 September 2014 respectively.

Are for a licence to abstract water and a licence to impound to install a new intake weir on Hol Beck at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 39259 02587.

The purpose of the works is to facilitate the abstraction of water through a single Turgo hydropower turbine. If licensed the turbine will have a maximum capacity of 79 litres per second. It will operate all year and will be subject to a local hands-off flow constraint. All of the water used will be returned to the Hol Beck approximately 866 meters (m) downstream of the weir.

The application of Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel Limited:

Is for a licence to abstract water from Hol Beck at NGR NY 39161 02363.

The purpose of the licence is to facilitate the installation of a side intake for abstraction of water through a single Turgo hydropower turbine. If licensed the turbine will have a maximum capacity of 75 litres per second. It will operate all year and will be subject to a local hands-off flow constraint. All of the water used will be returned to the Hol Beck approximately 334m downstream of the weir.
