Sorting waste tyres under a T8 waste exemption: LRWP 72

Updated 1 August 2023

Applies to England

This low risk waste position (LRWP) applies if you sort waste tyres (for example by type, size and condition) as an associated prior treatment under the T8 waste exemption: mechanically treating end-of-life tyres.

Conditions you must comply with

For this LRWP to apply, you must:

  • register a T8 waste exemption for the associated storage and treatment of tyres
  • comply with all the other conditions in the T8 waste exemption

Waste exemptions including T8 are currently under review - they may be modified or withdrawn. This LWRP is temporary pending the outcome of this review.

You must make sure your activities do not endanger human health or the environment. You must not:

  • cause a risk to water, air, soil, plants or animals
  • cause a nuisance through noise or odours
  • adversely affect the countryside or places of special interest

Enforcement

A LRWP means that the Environment Agency will not normally take enforcement action against you provided:

  • your activity meets the description set out in this LRWP
  • you comply with the conditions set out in this LRWP
  • your activity does not, and is not likely to, cause environmental pollution or harm human health
