Treating uPVC plastic and rubber: LRWP 86

This low risk waste position (LRWP) applies if you treat mixed uPVC plastic and rubber (waste code 19 12 04) from windows and doors.

1. Conditions you must comply with:

You must only:

  • treat the waste through optical sorting or density separation (or both) for recovery
  • store and treat the waste within a secure building with impermeable surfacing
  • accept waste which has already been treated at a suitably permitted facility

You must not:

  • store more than 200 tonnes of mixed and sorted waste uPVC plastic and rubber from windows and doors at any one time
  • store the waste for longer than 3 months
  • store the waste in piles greater than 100 cubic metres

You must make sure your activities do not endanger human health or the environment.

You must not:

  • cause a risk to water, air, soil, plants or animals
  • cause a nuisance through noise or odours
  • adversely affect the countryside or places of special interest

2. Enforcement

A LRWP means that the Environment Agency will not normally take enforcement action against you provided:

  • your activity meets the description set out in this LRWP
  • you comply with the conditions set out in this LRWP
  • your activity does not, and is not likely to, cause environmental pollution or harm human health
