A list of herbal ingredients which are banned or restricted for unlicensed medicines.
Manufacturers, wholesalers and sellers must ensure any herbal products they place on the market do not contain banned ingredients. They must also ensure that restricted ingredients are used legally.
This list has been extracted from Human Medicines Regulations (2012) list which you can see for more information. Some herbal ingredients have more than one set of restrictions.
Restrictions may be added or removed at any time. You must check that your ingredients are legal before you apply for a traditional herbal registration for a herbal medicine.
