This research was conducted under Better Outcomes Through Linked Data, (BOLD) a cross-government programme led by the MOJ. It was created to show how people with complex needs can be better supported by linking and improving the government data held on them in a safe and secure way.
This report links data from 2 of the 3 rape crisis centres in the Synergy Essex Partnership, (known for reporting purposes as South and West Essex Rape Crisis Centres [SWERCC]) with data from Essex Police.
The primary aims of this research were:
- To compare victims of sexual offences referred to support services who had reported to the police, and those who had not reported to the police to examine any differences that may be inherent in the groups present in this data.
- To understand the journey of victims of sexual offences through the police stages of the CJS, and how their experiences may impact engagement with victim support services.
To fully answer the second aim, the research looked at:
- the characteristics of those who were referred to victim support services and the CJS,
- the support needs of different groups of victims.
