Details

One of the Climate Change Committee’s (CCC) priority recommendations in its recent progress report on climate adaptation (April 2025) was for government to set improved objectives and targets. The government has already committed to explore how stronger objectives can be set to improve preparedness for the impacts of climate change.

This letter from the Minister for Water and Flooding, Emma Hardy, who is also responsible for leading climate adaptation efforts across government, asks the CCC for its assessment of the climate change assumptions that should be built into the government’s planning on climate adaptation. This will inform the government’s ongoing development of stronger objectives for managing climate risks.

The Adaptation Committee provides independent, expert advice on preparing for and adapting to climate change to the UK and devolved governments and parliaments. The committee reports every 2 years on progress in adapting to climate change in England.
