On 23 October 2026, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Matthew Pennycook MP, wrote to Local Planning and Minerals and Waste Authorities extending the deadline to submit plans for examination in the legacy plan-making system to 31 March 2027.
The amended deadline will apply to all authorities who have reached Regulation 19 consultation by 31 December 2026 and are not subject to formal local plan intervention.
