Details of the application

Leeds United Football Club Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from a groundwater magnesian limestone strata at Leeds United Training Grounds, Thorp Arch, LS23 7GB using two boreholes at National Grid References SE 43549 47021 and SE 43673 47096.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 42 cubic metres an hour

  • 500 cubic metres a day

  • 121,000 cubic metres a year

  • All year.

The water will be used to fill a reservoir for subsequent spray irrigation of football pitches.
