Leeds City Council has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to construct a dam and impede the flow of the Wyke Beck at National Grid Reference (NGR) SE 33878 34747. The water will be impounded to alleviate flooding downstream by creating a wetland structure.

The capacity of the wetland structure at overflow level will be 40,513 cubic metres of flood water.

Leeds City Council has also applied for a licence to abstract (take) water from the Wyke Beck at NGR SE 33981 35023 to transfer the water to the Wyke Beck at National Grid References SE 33857 34850 and SE 33862 34819 without intervening use. The overflow point is set at 42.73 metres above ordnance datum and will overtop on average 3.28 days per year.
