  • Scope: This statement assesses the effects of lead exposure on maternal health, including pre‑conception, pregnancy and the post‑partum period. It considers inorganic lead exposure from food, drinking water, air, soil and dust, reviews toxicological and epidemiological evidence, estimates dietary and aggregate exposure for women of childbearing age, and characterises risk using benchmark dose modelling and margins of exposure.
