Laing O’Rourke Construction Limited has applied to the Environment Agency to vary a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number TH/039/0042/053 to abstract water from the Tertiary Sands and Chalk aquifers at Heathwall and Kirtling Street, London, from several boreholes within the area marked by National Grid References (NGRs) TQ 29527 77581, TQ 29594 77624, TQ 29589 77697 and TQ 29503 77674, and also from four boreholes located at NGRs TQ 29236 77560, TQ 29282 77594, TQ 29214 77573 and TQ 29194 77596.

The abstracted water will be transferred into the River Thames at NGRs TQ 29580 77654 and TQ 29227 77645 without intervening use.

The variation applied for is to reduce the groundwater levels further as a safety critical requirement for construction.
