Laing O’Rourke Construction Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Thanet Sands and Chalk aquifers at Heathwall from 3 boreholes at National Grid References (NGRs) TQ 29587 77631, TQ 29559 77643 and TQ 29526 77617 and at Kirtling Street at NGRs TQ 29282 77594, TQ 29236 77560, TQ 29214 77573 and TQ 29194 77596. The abstracted water will be transferred into the River Thames at NGRs TQ 29580 77654 and TQ 29227 77645 without intervening use.

Abstraction will take place each day for the purpose of dewatering the lower aquifers to a desired level, to create a dry construction area.
