The Environment Agency has received an application to vary (change) an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from European Metal Recycling Limited.

This variation is to add the following Schedule 1 listed activities under Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016: S5.3 (a) (ii) – hazardous waste installation – physico-chemical treatment. The variation is to accommodate a re-classification of already permitted waste codes 19 10 04 (fluff light fraction and dust other than those mentioned in 19 10 03), 19 10 06 (other fractions other than those mentioned in 19 10 05) and 19 12 12 (other wastes (including mixtures of materials) from mechanical treatment of wastes other than those mentioned in 19 12 11) to 19 10 03 (luff-light fraction and dust containing hazardous substances), 19 10 05* (other fractions containing hazardous substances) and 19 12 11* (other wastes (including mixtures of materials) from mechanical treatment of waste containing hazardous substances) respectively. 

In addition waste codes are also being added to waste activities falling outside the Industrial Emission Directive (IED). Waste code 16 02 05* (hazardous components removed from discarded equipment) is being added to the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) storage and treatment. This code is also being added to the metal recycling activity along with 17 04 10* (cables containing oil, coal tar and other hazardous substances).
