An application has been made to the Environment Agency by Julian Trim. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Stour at:

Dorset Showground Weir
West Stour
Gillingham
Dorset

At National Grid Reference (NGR) ST 78790 23142.

The object of impounding water by means of the works is the alteration and raising of Dorset Showground Weir by 400 millimetres to install an Archimedean screw turbine and a fish and eel pass.

The alteration works are to enable the abstraction of water for the purpose of hydro-electric power generation at a maximum rate of 3,635 litres per second, and for fish and eel passage. All of the water used will be returned to the River Stour immediately downstream of the weir.
