Welcome
Lord Hanson (Home Office) welcomed attendees, and introduced Lucy Rigby MP (HMT EST), and (in abstention) Kanishka Narayan MP (DSIT) as co-chairs. Lucy Rigby MP (Treasury) confirmed tackling fraud as a key economic priority.
Fraud updates
Home Official officials provide an update on the latest fraud statistics, the upcoming fraud strategy, the second telecommunications sector charter, roll-out of Report Fraud, and a business roundtable that was held. Officials thanked attendees for their collaboration across these areas.
Online crime
Law enforcement provided an update on plans to disrupt online crime. A request was made for continued and increased collaboration between government, law enforcement and industry on tackling fraud.
Global fraud summit
Lord Hanson noted that the UN-INTERPOL summit will take place in Vienna in March 2026, and officials explained the summit’s aims including to increase the global prioritisation of fraud. A request was made for attendees to endorse the UN Global Public-Private Partnership Principles.
Authorised push payment reimbursement
The Payment Services Regulator updated on reimbursement scheme which has been in place since Oct 2024. A one-year review of the scheme is expected spring 2026. A future JFT will discuss the published reports findings.
Sector updates
The technology and telecoms sector provided short updates.
Closing remarks
Lord Hanson thanked attendees for their contributions and suggested the next JFT includes a discussion on the Global Fraud Summit and the publication of the strategy.
