1. Details of the application

John Sisk & Son Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two full abstraction licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is for a full licence to abstract groundwater from the SUNO Sherwood Sandstone near York. The water will be abstracted for the purpose of site wide dewatering for the duration of the York Central construction project in the area formed between National Grid References SE 58166 52293, SE 58465 52463, SE 59533 51813 and SE 59299 51583.

Some of the water abstracted will be discharged into nearby sewers with some being stored on-site and re-used for subsequent dust suppression.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 63 cubic metres an hour
  • 630 cubic metres a day
  • 155,793 cubic metres a year
  • All year round for the duration of the project.

The second application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Holgate Beck at National Grid Reference SE 58540 52122 in York. The water will be used solely for the purpose of dust suppression for the duration of the York Central development project.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 10 cubic metres an hour
  • 100 cubic metres a day
  • 10,560 cubic metres a year
  • All year round for the duration of the project.
