An application has been made to the Environment Agency by James Cole. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Walkham at:

Heckwood Quarry
Sampford Spiney
Yelverton
Devon
PL20 6LG

At National Grid Reference (NGR) SX 54520 73919.

The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates and periods:

  • peak instantaneous rate of 800 litres per second
  • 2,880 cubic metres an hour
  • 69,120 cubic metres a day
  • 10,000,000 cubic metres a year
  • all year

All water abstracted will be conveyed by pipe to a hydro-electric turbine to generate power after which it will be returned to the River Walkham at NGR SX 54457 73621.

An application has also been made for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Walkham at the same location. The object of impounding water by means of the works is to facilitate the above abstraction.
