J. & J. Franks Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from Folkestone Formation Sand aquifer at Mercers South Quarry at an area at National Grid References TQ 30329 52003; TQ 30739 52115; TQ 30963 51552 and TQ 30277 51571. The quarry dewatered water will be transferred to a settlement lagoon prior to discharging to Brewer Street Brook at National Grid Reference (NGR) TQ 30951 51560 or to Warner’s Brook at NGR TQ 30912 51459 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 459 cubic metres an hour
  • 11,000 cubic metres a day
  • 1,350,500 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 130 litres per second
  • All year.
