Investigation into imports of modified monosodium glutamate from China (anti-dumping duty 2389)

Overview

Initiation of a circumvention investigation concerning monosodium glutamate, originating in the People’s Republic of China and making such imports subject to registration.

The Commission has annoucned in Regulations 2020/2030, OJ ref .L47 the initiation of an investigation to examine whether the anti-dumping duty on monosodium glutamate, originating in the People’s Republic of China, is being circumvented by a slight modification of the product, and making such imports subject to registration.

This regulation takes effect from 21 February 2020.

Product description

Products that are under investigation are:

  • monosodium glutamate in mixture or solution
  • products containing by dry weight 50% or more of monodosium glutamate

Taric codes

These following TARIC codes have been incorporated into the Tariff as a result of these measures:

  • 2103 9090 11
  • 2103 9090 81
  • 2104 1000 11
  • 2104 1000 81
  • 2104 2000 11
  • 3824 9992 98
  • 3824 9993 89
  • 3824 9996 89

Customs authorities will register imports for a period of 9 months from 21 February 2020.

Registration allows the commission, at the end of the current investigations, to backdate anti-dumping duties, if appropriate, to imports during this 9 month period.

Exporters and producers not involved in circumvention practices may apply to the commission for exemption from registration, if they meet the conditions.

Interested parties are invited to make their views known to the commission in writing, to provide supporting evidence or request to be heard (within the short time limit). Please refer to the regulation for details.
