International Green Corridor Fund

Updated 5 April 2024

In September 2023, the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) announced the launch of the International Green Corridor Fund (IGCF). The IGCF has allocated £1.5 million for feasibility studies that examine green corridor routes between the UK and international partner countries between 2024 and 2025.

The ICGF forms the fifth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) and aims to accelerate green corridor development by facilitating greater engagement between UK organisations and international stakeholders.

This will accelerate the development of green corridors and the targets established by the Clydebank Declaration.

Green corridors are defined as zero emission maritime routes between 2 or more ports. They are vital to encouraging the development of vessel and shoreside technology in clean maritime.

UK SHORE funding worth £1.5 million will be made available for British registered organisations and activities based in the UK to deliver these feasibility studies.

Partner countries will provide match-funding for organisations in their countries or in-kind contributions through access to information and facilitation of collaboration. Partner countries will include the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Ireland.

For information on the UK-Ireland fund please see the ICGF competition overview published by Innovate UK.

Further information on IGCF funding will be available here in due course.

The Department for Transport’s £206 million UK SHORE programme is focused on accelerating the technology necessary to decarbonise the domestic maritime sector. It is delivering a suite of interventions that address different barriers to maritime decarbonisation across a range of technology-readiness levels (TRLs).
