Thank you for your email of 29 April in which you requested from the Insolvency Service:
“I was wondering is it by any chance possible to get information on the trading names of the bankrupt firms and their dates of insolvency for 2006-2017?”
Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
I can confirm the agency holds the information that you have requested and I have provided a table at Annex A with the names, company numbers, insolvency procedure, and quarter of registration for every company that entered insolvency in the United Kingdom between 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2017.
Under section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance) you may find it useful to note:
Exact registration dates are not held for historic data prior to July 2015. Therefore, registration quarter is provided. The quarters are calendar year quarters, so for example 2006Q1 means January to March 2006.
Compulsory liquidations in England and Wales are sourced from a live administration system managed by the Insolvency Service. The registration quarter for these is the court order date. All other insolvency procedures are sourced from Companies House, with the registration quarter based on the date than an insolvency was registered at Companies House.
Companies with multiple insolvency procedures are included multiple times to give a full record of all registered insolvencies. This means that there are some duplicate company numbers.
Total numbers of insolvencies presented here may not align with numbers in the published Quarterly Insolvency Statistics. This is because numbers in the quarterly statistics are only revised back to 2011. Furthermore, compulsory liquidations in Northern Ireland presented here are obtained from data provided by Companies House, whereas numbers in the published statistics are received in aggregate form from the Department for the Economy.
