Details of the application

Ingrebourne Valley Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract from groundwater, within an underground strata consisting of Colchester formation. This abstraction will be within an area created by the following National Grid References (NGRs): TL 70470 23500, TL 71450 23500, TL 71450 22500 and TL 70470 22500.

This water will then be transferred into the Ter surface waterbody without intervening use. Additionally, the discharge locations will be dependent on which phase the project is in. The NGRs for the discharge locations are as follows: TL 70920 22520, TL 70850 22380, TL 70500 22980, TL 70980 23470, TL 71400 23530, TL 70920 22520 and TL 70850 22380.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 190 cubic metres an hour
  • 4,539 cubic metres a day
  • 1,383,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 January and 31 December inclusive in each year.

Further details are: This application is for the purpose of dewatering groundwater within a quarry into nearby surface waters and will be carried out in phases.
