Individuals deprived of British citizenship since 2013

Published 18 December 2014

  • Since January 2013, under S.40 of the British Nationality Act 1981, 37 individuals have been deprived of their British citizenship on the grounds that it was either conducive to the public good to do so, or that the individual concerned obtained their British citizenship by means of fraud, false representation or concealment of material fact.

  • None of the individuals concerned were sole British nationals. The grounds for depriving them of their citizenship were in accordance with s.40 of the British Nationality Act 1981 and were either because the Secretary of State was satisfied that such deprivation was conducive to the public good or; the individual had fraudulently obtained British citizenship. All 37 individuals deprived of their citizenship during this period were considered to have another alternative nationality.
