Dear Baroness Longfield,
Thank you for your letter asking me to be an Adviser on the Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs.
Institutions which bear responsibility for how these crimes were handled have failed to give victims the accountability they seek. I am personally committed to supporting you and your fellow Panellists to make sure the Inquiry delivers this accountability.
As you know, I have existing commitments, including chairing the Independent Commission into Adult Social Care. Therefore, we will need to work together to ensure the time I dedicate to the Inquiry does not affect this vital work.
I am sure that with the right secretariat, Inquiry solicitor and counsel the work can get underway quickly and I have full confidence in you and the Panellists to get this work done in a timely manner. I will of course support you in this work, as public servants we all have a duty to do so. Thank you to you, Zoë and Eleanor for taking this on.
