Imerys Minerals Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

Application NPS/WR/040655 is for a licence to abstract water from Baal and Carclaze Pits, Cornwall, at National Grid Reference (NGR) SX 02579 55101 to transfer it to a lake at Penwithick, Cornwall, at NGR SX 02713 55267 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 2,500 cubic metres an hour
  • 5,000 cubic metres a day
  • 1,000,000 cubic metres a year.

Application NPS/WR/040738 is for a licence to abstract water from the Goonbarrow Pit, Cornwall, at NGR SX 00837 58231 to transfer it to a lake at Bugle, Cornwall, at NGR SX 00848 60027 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 2,500 cubic metres an hour
  • 3,600 cubic metres a day
  • 550,000 cubic metres a year.

Further details are:

  • The purpose of the transfers is to maintain water levels in the pits and prevent flooding.
  • Related operations have previously taken place under licences 15/48/192/G/008 and 15/48/191/G/106/R01.
