Details of the application

Imerys Minerals Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from a ball clay quarry sump spanning an area between National Grid References SY 91669 84692, SY 91654 84697, SY 91682 84714 and SY 91671 84725 to transfer it to the Toll Bar Stream at National Grid Reference SY 92676 82827 without intervening use.

The application is to increase the annual abstraction quantity from 987,840 cubic metres to 1,900,000 cubic metres only. All other existing details permitted under the Water Resources (Transitional Provisions) 2017 will remain as follows:

  • 230 cubic metres an hour
  • 5,520 cubic metres a day
  • Abstraction all year for the purpose of dewatering.
