FOI release

How much the SIA has paid suppliers

Published 11 September 2025

Request

For the period June 2024 to now (August 2025), give details of:

  • how much the SIA has spent on or paid suppliers
  • payments to suppliers of over £500 or £25,000, depending on your publication thresholds

Response

The SIA publishes details of payments to suppliers over £25,000.

Details of the payments made in July 2024 are exempt from disclosure under Section 21(1) of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) as it is information available to you by other means. It is available on our website: SIA spending over £25,000 in July 2024.

Details of the payments made for June 2024 and from August 2024 to August 2025 are exempt from disclosure under Section 22(a)(b)(c) of the FOIA because it is information held by the SIA with a view to its publication at a future date. This information was already held with a view to such publication at the time the FOI request was made and it is reasonable in all circumstances that the information should be withheld from disclosure.

Section 22 is a qualified class-based exemption and consideration must be given as to whether there is a public interest in providing the information prior to the anticipated publication.

The SIA recognises that there is a strong public interest to demonstrate openness, transparency and accountability with regards to the Freedom of Information legislation particularly in relation to an individual’s right to know. We recognise that disclosure would provide reassurance in relation to the utilisation of public funds by the SIA, which is also achieved by publishing this information on the GOV.UK webpages.

We do not consider that it is in the public interest to publish information into the public domain before pre-publication procedures can take place. There is a public interest in ensuring that the SIA maximises cost-effectiveness. It would be less cost-effective to place this information in the public domain prematurely in response to an FOI request than it would be to publish it on GOV.UK according to our usual procedures.

We have therefore reached the view that, on balance, the public interest is better served by withholding this information under section 22 of the FOIA at this time; however, the data will be available in the near future on the GOV.UK web pages.
