We received the following request for information under the Freedom of Information Act, 2000:

  1. How many press releases were issued between 27 June and 4 November 2007?

  2. How many press releases were issued between 12 May and 20 August 2010?

We released the following information on: 11 November 2010

1. Our records show the number of press releases issued between 27 June and 4 Nov 2007 was 63.

2. Our records show the number of press releases issued between 12 May and 20 August 2010 to be 31.

Home Office press releases can be found on the Home Office website at:

In addition to national press releases, our regional UKBA press officers release information to regional and local media on an ad hoc basis about local immigration and border operational activity.

Our team of regional UKBA press officers had not been formally established in 2007 so there is no separate corresponding regionally specific breakdown of figures for that year.  Any regionally specific press notices issued at that time are included in the overarching figure provided above.

The system has developed over the last couple of years as the operational remit of UKBA was established and expanded to include HMRC.  Our records show that between 12 May and 20 August 2010, there were 100 regional specific press releases issued around the UK.  Please note that immigration is not a devolved matter and regional press officers cover England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
