Home Office expenditure on public information campaigns in 2014

Public information campaigns by the Home Office during the 2014/15 Financial Year

  1. Modern Slavery - A marketing campaign launched on 31 July 2014 to increase awareness of the issue and encourage reporting via a new helpline and website. The net media cost of the TV advertising element of this campaign was £970,611. No radio advertising was done on LBC or any other radio station.

  2. NPS Legal Highs – A marketing campaign ran from July to October 2014 to raise awareness of the risks, consequences and harms of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS or ‘Legal Highs’) in order to reduce use of these drugs. No advertising was done on either TV or the LBC radio station. The net media cost of radio advertising on other stations was £17,419.90.

  3. Police Crime Commissioners By-Election (PCCs) – Advertising campaigns have been delivered in two regions where by-elections have been triggered in this financial year: South Yorkshire and the West Midlands. No advertising was done on either TV or the LBC radio station. The net media cost of radio advertising on other stations:

i. In the West Midlands in August 2014 was £17,228.76 ii. In South Yorkshire in October 2014 was £10,528.10.

NB: Net media costs exclude related fees and VAT. All figures relate to Home Office expenditure.

Government public awareness campaigns are developed based on departmental policy objectives. Home Office public awareness campaigns therefore reflect the Department’s priorities and are used as a lever to deliver these.
