Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from Hol Beck at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 39161 02363 at Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel, Windermere.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 270 cubic metres an hour
  • 6480 cubic metres a day
  • 1,425,600 cubic metres a year
  • 75 litres per second
  • All year

The water will be used for a high head hydro electric power production scheme. Further details are: This application is being determined as a competing scheme against application numbers NPS/WR/014784 and NPS/WR/014788.
