The role of the Strategic Design Panel is to ensure that design excellence in landscape, engineering and built environment is considered in all Highways England projects. The work of the Strategic Design Panel takes place in the context of the government’s wider Road Investment Strategy.
Over the past year, the Strategic Design Panel has applied its advisory powers to provide advice on standards and processes, and embedding Highways England’s design vision and principles. It has also considered and made recommendations on the importance of green infrastructure and quality in construction, and overseen the design review of complex and sensitive schemes.
