H2O Power Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Ouse at Naburn Weir, Naburn, York, at National Grid Reference (NGR) SE 59327 44568.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 108,000 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,592,000 cubic metres a day
  • 699,900,000 cubic metres a year
  • at an instantaneous rate of 30 cubic metres per second.

The water will be used for hydroelectric power generation. All the water abstracted will be returned to the River Ouse just downstream of the weir at NGR SE 59350 44541.
