H2O Power Limited: application made to impound water

H2O Power Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Irwell at Ringley Weir, Kearsley, Bolton at National Grid Reference SD 76447 04843.
Water will be obstructed or impeded to replace an existing sluice with a 3 blade Archimedean screw turbine and an all species Larinier technical fish pass. The alteration works are to enable the abstraction of water for the purpose of hydro-electric power production at a maximum rate of 9,000 litres per second and for fish and eel passage.
All of the water abstracted will be returned to the River Irwell approximately 4 metres downstream of the weir.
