H20 Power Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Weaver at Dutton Sluices, National Grid Reference (NGR) SJ 58755 77050.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 43,200 cubic metres an hour
  • 1,036,800 cubic metres a day
  • 378,683,107 cubic metres a year
  • All year abstraction

The water will be used for the purpose of hydro-electric power generation via an Archimedes Hydroscrew turbine before being returned immediately downstream of the weir/sluices at National Grid Reference SJ 58745 77051. A co-located Larinier fish pass and integrated eel pass will also be installed to aid upstream passage.
