The Environment Agency is proposing to vary (change) licence number 7/34/10/*G/0111, held by H A Overton and Sons.

The Environment Agency is required to give notice of this proposal. The Environment Agency give this notice in line with section 52 of the Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended by Section 22 of the Water Act 2003) and regulation 31 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

This licence allows the licence holder

H A Overton and Sons
Laurels Farm
Catfield
Great Yarmouth
Norfolk
NR29 5BX

to abstract a total of 1,200 cubic metres of water a day, and a total of 72,700 cubic metres a year, from underground strata comprising of sands and gravels at Catfield, Norfolk. This is at National Grid References (NGR):

  • TG 39680 20595 (Point 1)
  • TG 39780 20585 (Point 2).

The licence holder can abstract water for spray irrigation.

The proposal is to add a new condition which will reduce the total annual licensed quantity from both abstraction points to 54,525 cubic metres when the level of water in the Environment Agency’s chalk observation borehole at NGR TG 3701 2681 is equal to or less than 1.3 metres above Ordnance Datum during March. An alternative borehole and equivalent level may be used if necessary.

The Environment Agency also propose to add a time limit of 31 March 2018.

The Environment Agency have made this proposal as part of a programme to help protect water supplies and improve the environment.
