Details

The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 includes provisions for disruptive activities in the areas around Parliament Square and the Palace of Westminster.

The provisions relate to:

  • damage to Parliament Square
  • noise disruption
  • health, hygiene and safety issues
  • placing iconic spaces out of bounds for the enjoyment of the public
  • obstructing access to the Parliamentary Estate for those who have business here

This guidance gives an overview of the legislation and how it should be implemented.

  1. Updated guidance following the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022, which amended the arrangements set out in the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011. Changes include the expansion of the Palace of Westminster controlled area, and new provisions relating to the obstruction of vehicles entering and exiting the Parliamentary Estate.
