Greenwheel Nether Lock Hydro Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Trent (Newark Branch) at Nether Lock Weir, Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 80087 55288.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 18,000 cubic metres an hour

  • 432,000 cubic metres a day

  • 158,112,000 cubic metres a year

  • At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 5,000 litres per second.

The water will be used all year round for hydro-electric power production. All abstracted water will be returned to the River Trent (Newark Branch) downstream of Nether Lock Weir at NGR SK 80060 55283.
