Government announces 25 "trailblazer neighbourhoods" to receive long-term investment - details

​​The government has today announced 25 trailblazer neighbourhoods that will each receive up to £20 million over the next decade as part of a new fund announced at the Spending Review.   

​Neighbourhoods in areas such as in Kingston Upon Hull, Maidstone, Blackpool, Stockport, Stoke-on-Trent, Swindon and Newcastle Upon Tyne will lead the way in community-led regeneration and renewal, receiving long-term investment for communities and early support to prepare for investment from a dedicated team. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) will work with partners from across the sector to help crowd in investment and provide a direct link to Whitehall – making sure that places that have been too easily left behind are no longer ignored.  

​This investment will support communities to drive forward the changes they want to see in their neighbourhoods. It will support improvements people can see on their doorstep, champion local leadership, foster community engagement and strengthen social cohesion.  

​This forms part of communities funding for up to 350 places announced at the SR, including the 75 places named in the Plan for Neighbourhoods in March 2025. MHCLG will set out further details shortly. This will sit alongside much-needed reforms to simplify the local government funding landscape, getting money to the places that need it most, to deliver the services communities rely on.  

​The 20 trailblazer areas in England are:   

  • ​Orchard Park, Kingston upon Hull, City of  

  • ​Little Layton and Little Carleton, Blackpool  

  • ​Brinnington, Stockport  

  • ​Bentilee and Ubberley, Stoke-on-Trent  

  • ​Speke East, Liverpool  

  • ​Thorntree, Middlesbrough  

  • ​Batemoor and Jordanthorpe, Sheffield  

  • ​Hartcliffe, Bristol, City of  

  • ​Benchill South and Wythenshawe Central, Manchester  

  • ​Warndon West, Worcester  

  • ​Birkenhead Central, Wirral  

  • ​Middleton Park Avenue, Leeds  

  • ​Penhill, Swindon  

  • ​Parkwood and Senacre, Maidstone  

  • ​Walker North, Newcastle upon Tyne  

  • ​Bootle South, Sefton  

  • ​Pendleton, Salford  

  • ​Birchwood West, Lincoln  

  • ​Central Stockton and Portrack, Stockton-on-Tees  

  • ​Barrow Central, Westmorland and Furness  

​The five trailblazers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be a neighbourhood in each of the following:  

  • ​Glasgow  

  • ​Fife  

  • ​Swansea  

  • ​Cardiff  

  • ​Belfast  

​We will continue to work in partnership with the Offices for Nations and Devolved Governments on how we select neighbourhoods across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
