Goring and Streatley Community Energy Limited: application made to abstract water and impound water

Goring and Streatley Community Energy Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006).
The first application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of River Thames at Goring Weir at National Grid Reference (NGR) SU 59650 80914. The object of impounding water by means of the works is to install three Archimedean screw turbines and a fish pass within the existing weir footprint for the purpose of hydro-electric power production.
The maximum amount of water that will run through the turbines will be:
- 21,300 litres per second,
- 2,160,000 cubic metres per day
- 432,000,000 cubic metres per year.
The second application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of River Thames at Streatley Weir at NGR SU 59526 80779. The object of impounding water by means of the works is to provide a controlled additional flow into the weirpool for environmental benefit, and not to provide an improved flow for the turbines.
