Details of the application

Glaxo Operations UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 29/38/07/0022 which authorises the abstraction of water from Unconfined Chalk, Upper Lee Chalk at Ware, National Grid Reference (NGR) TL 3522 1444.

The variation applied for is an additional borehole located at NGR TL 35250 14556 due to their current borehole being in a hard to reach location and continued improvement works to their water storage facilities. The applicant is proposing to continue using the existing borehole located at NGR TL 3522 1444, but will only use one borehole at a time to abstract. Alongside this the second borehole will have reduced quantities to help prevent over abstraction.

There are no proposed changes to the quantities authorised on the base licence and the second borehole location is from the same groundwater source, Upper Lee Chalk.
