Funding to support local authorities with development management – successful local authorities

Published 24 March 2026

Applies to England

Summary

In December 2025, the government announced that it will issue at least £8 million in development management funding this financial year to help local planning authorities with high economic growth potential and high volumes of major residential schemes at the post-outline stage. This includes £3 million for the Greater London Authority (GLA) to support London boroughs with development management and to help them implement the measures in the emergency package announced on 23 October 2025.

Eligible local authorities were invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) form by 28 January 2026 to request a share of this funding. All EOIs have been reviewed. The GLA has been awarded £3 million and 62 local authorities have been awarded a share of over £6 million development management funding. Local authorities in receipt of development management funding will receive their awards before the end of March 2026.
