Freedom of Information Act: Request for information on Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) activities

Thank you for your email of 11 April 2025 regarding staff expenses and the GCA. You asked for the following information:

Please include the following information for the last four financial years, 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24:

  • The total amount claimed in expenses by senior staff annually.

  • A breakdown of expenses by category (e.g., travel, accommodation, meals, hospitality, subsistence, training, etc.).

  • The total amount claimed by the most expensive individual claimant (job title only) in each of those years.

  • If available, a breakdown of expenses for members of the senior leadership team (e.g., Chief Executive, Directors), including job titles and total expenses per individual per year.

General right of access to information held by public authorities

Under section 1(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the FOI Act”), anyone making a request for information to the GCA, as a public authority, is entitled to be informed in writing whether it holds that information, and if so, to be supplied with it.

The GCA holds the information you have requested.

The table below shows the total amount claimed in expenses each year and the categories under which the expenses were claimed. The table presents data from the past four financial years, including 2024/25, which, although not initially specified, falls within the period you requested.

All of the following expenses were claimed by the Groceries Code Adjudicator. There are no Senior Civil Servants employed at the GCA.

We will aim to deal with your Internal Review request within 20 working days of receipt or, if that is not possible, advise you of a date when we expect to complete the review.

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of the Internal Review, you then have the right to appeal to the Information Commissioner’s Office. You can do this on the Information Commissioner’s Office website.
