This request asked for the figures for the number of times trusts have reported using the ‘break glass’ clauses to exceed locum pay caps since the introduction of the locum pay caps.

The request asked for the figures to be broken down by:

  • week
  • trust
  • whether the clause was for nursing, junior medical or consultant medical staff

NHS Improvement held most of the information and decided to release it on an anonymised basis.
