Use Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data to explore inspection data for children’s social care, early years, further education and skills, non-association independent schools, initial teacher education providers and state-funded schools.

  1. We’ve postponed the next publication of the Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data while we update it. We're also reviewing whether these data releases continue to meet stakeholder needs. For more information, read the full notice on the page.

  2. We have changed the name of the ‘Children's social care: Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data (non-LA)’ dataset to ‘Children’s social care providers: Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data’. We have also updated the early years and children’s social care providers datasets to reflect the latest official statistics data publications.

  3. Added data for state-funded schools as at 31 December 2024. Updated guidance notes to explain how the removal of the overall effectiveness judgement for state-funded schools in September 2024 affects the dataset.

  4. Datasets have been updated to reflect the latest official statistics data publications. The 'Provider type' column in the ITE dataset is now consistent with how this data is reported in the ITE official statistics. In the 'Children's social care non-LA' dataset, the date format for the 'Five-Year Ofsted inspection data publish date' column has been corrected.

  5. Updates to the children's social care and early years datasets. Children's social care has now been split out into LA and non-LA datasets. Minor refinements to the guidance include new sections referencing independent schools inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate and a section about upcoming inspections for social care supported accommodation providers.

  6. Added state-funded schools data as at 31 December 2023.

  7. Recently uploaded datasets contain data related to the latest official statistics publications. In the ‘Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data guidance', a statement about publishing data on the deprivation index that affects children's social care settings has been removed. This data will not be published for children's social care.

  8. Updated all the data files to include sub-judgements. Split the data in the 'Children's social care: Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data' ODS file into 2 separate worksheets: non-local authority providers and local authority providers.

  9. Republished further education and skills: Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data due to the 2021 dataset, having event date rather than publication date in the ‘Published date’ field.

Following the introduction of the renewed education inspection framework, we have discontinued updates to the Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data. New data will be published as Official Statistics under the renewed framework. Previously published data is available below.

We’ve postponed the next publication of the Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data while we update it to reflect the removal of the overall effectiveness judgements and the introduction of the renewed education inspection framework.

Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data shows Ofsted inspection outcomes over 5 years. It will be updated with published data at various points throughout the year (point-in-time data), linked to the release of Official Statistics. You can view performance of providers by:

  • remits
  • provider types
  • local authority (LA) areas
  • overall effectiveness
  • sub-judgement

The Five-Year Ofsted Inspection Data presents point-in-time data. Providers may have been re-inspected since the data was last updated. Always refer to Ofsted’s reports website for the latest inspection grade.
