The full width of the river will be closed to all boat traffic from 50 metres upstream and downstream of NGR: SP4383006730 WHAT3WORDS: CONCERTS.FLITTING.SPRAYS from Monday 7 June at 9am to Friday 11 June 2021 at 4pm.

This is to allow the refurbishment of the Farmoor flow gauge. The current equipment has reached the end of its operational life. We need to excavate a trench in the river bed in order to lay new cables across the river to bring the flow gauge back into service. Once the trench has been excavated, divers will lay the cable in a specially designed weighted casing and anchor it within the trench. Then the trench will be backfilled. Due to the nature of the works, the equipment that is required and for the safety of the divers it is only possible to carry out the works with a full river closure.

The flow gauge is a vitally important piece of equipment. It allows us to manage the river effectively in both high and low flow events. The data is also used by third parties such as Thames Water to help them effectively abstract water from the river to provide drinking water to our homes.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works cause and thank you for your patience during this time.
